Coupling

coupling is a device used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power. The primary purpose of couplings is to join two pieces of rotating equipment while permitting some degree of misalignment or end movement or both. Selection, installation and maintenance of couplings can lead to reduced maintenance time and maintenance cost.

Power can be transmitted by using a coupling, even between axes of different diameters as shown in the following figures

The role of a coupling is mainly as follows.
  1. 1. Power is transmitted from the driving side (turning side) to the driven side (turned side).
  2. 2. Absorbs mounting errors between the axes of the driving side (turning side) and the driven side (turning side).
  3. 3. Absorbs vibration from the driving side (turning side) and protects surrounding products.
  4. 4. Does not transfer heat from the motor on the drive side (turning side), etc. to the driven side (turned side).

Flexible coupling transmit the torque from one shaft to other shaft where limited misalignment of shaft is unavoidable.

Flexible coupling transmitting the torque through rubber bushes which is excellent in sock and vibration absorb .

Flanges are Cast Iron and coming with pilot bore. Based on the requirement, it can be finished bore & key way as per standard IS:2048

Flexible coupling is mostly used for the high speed application.

The main function of any gear coupling is not only to connect two rotating shafts but also to accommodate mis alignments the connecting shaft.


Gear Couplings mainly comprises two Hubs with external machine-cut teeth of specially designed configuration, two flanged sleeves with internal teeth to match the two Hubs and a set of machine finished fasteners to both the two Flanged Sleeves when in installed position. Specially designed sealing arrangement is provided to prevent leakage of grease and ingress of outside dirt/water.

Torque Limiters are the mechanical safety devices which disconnect the output from the input when a preset value is reached. Thus, they protect the device against damage and stoppage time caused due to overloads.


When the preset limit torque has been reached the clutch disengages, after elimination of overload clutch re-engages automatically.
